Speaker Biographies

Sohail El-Abd

Sohail ElAbd
Mr. El-Abd is the General Manager for Esri Global in Dubai. He has 15 years of experience in delivering enterprise GIS systems for national security and defense as well as government, cadastre, and telecom. Mr. El-Abd has a master’s degree in Information Technology from Nottingham University, a master’s degree in GIS from Information Technology Institute (ITI) and a B.Sc in Civil Engineering from Alexandria University.

John Day

John Day
Mr. Day is a former British Army officer with 30 years of experience in military engineering and geospatial technology including counter-terrorism activities in Northern Ireland, maneuver warfare in West Germany, and geospatial support in the NATO Corps headquarters in Bosnia. Since joining ESRI he has been advising the US Defense and Intelligence Community on how emerging commercial GIS technologies and solutions translate to defense systems. Mr. Day led ESRI's activities with the Commercial Joint Mapping Toolkit, to provide geospatial tools for US C2I programs. Mr. Day is now a US citizen and the Director of ESRI's global Defense Business Development. Mr. Day has a master’s degree in Engineering (Cambridge University) and a master’s degree in GIS (Edinburgh University).

Gerald J. Kinn

Gerald Kinn
Mr. Kinn is a senior member of ESRI’s Imagery Team working with National Imagery Accounts. The team is focusing the enhancement of imagery capabilities in the ArcGIS platform. Mr. Kinn has more than thirty years of experience in systems engineering, design and implementation management for GIS and imaging solutions. Prior to joining ESRI, Mr. Kinn held engineering management positions with Trimble, Emerge, TASC and PAR Technology. Mr. Kinn received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Forest Engineering from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse (SUNY/CESF). He is currently an adjunct faculty member of Virginia Tech, teaching graduate level remote sensing. He is has been a member of the ASPRS since 1976 where he has held local offices and has been recognized for leadership contributions.

Art Inserra

Art Inserra
Mr. Inserra joined ESRI’s Defense Services group as a consultant and project manager in 2009. His experience includes more than 10 years in the Defense Industry in program and project management initially with International Research Institute (INRI) and then Northrop Grumman, where he worked on both domestic and international projects that involved command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems. Before joining defense industry, he served the United States for more than 25 years as a Marine Corps infantry commander and intelligence officer; he held various C4ISR-related positions in both the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) and the Joint Commands. He retired from Service as the Deputy J-2 PP&O, USSPACECOM/NORAD. He earned a B.A. in 1976 from the University of Arizona, Tucson, in international affairs, with a minor in political science.
