In order to proactively manage the transportation system in Dubai, RTA required a very strong focus on, and commitment to, geospatial information management. RTA went into an in-depth evaluation of various GIS systems and technologies available and decided to go for a Complete Enterprise GIS Platform Revamp implementation project based on Esri ArcGIS Server, Geocortex Essentials and FME technology. GISTEC created a Web mapping enabled interoperability portal to manage and maintain their geospatial data. The revamped RTA Enterprise Geospatial Platform expose web based services enabling access by multiple RTA agencies as standalone capabilities or as building blocks to develop custom applications. There is a great deal of data which is generated, acquired and managed by the various agencies, departments and sections within RTA. The existing web portal was migrated to a new revamped site that enables all key RTA businesses such as Rail Agency, Marine Department, Public Transport, Traffic Department, Strategy and Corporate Governance and Corporate Technical Services Support Sector to visualize and manage their respective GIS assets. The revamped portal built for RTA was based on ArcGIS Server and the Geocortex Viewer for Silverlight technology, which provides advanced Web Mapping capabilities with a highly configurable viewer and the added possibility of allowing the integration of custom SilverLight widgets.
