The Federal Electricity & Water Authority (FEWA) which is responsible for managing the electrical and water utility infrastructure in the UAE's northern Emirates adopted GIS as one of the core technologies to improve their day-to-day maintenance operations. The scope of work was extended for utility field data collection and utility GIS implementation to cover the other Northern emirates of Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quain, Dhaid and Fujairah. GISTEC provided the complete turn-key GIS services for FEWA catering to the Utility GIS needs of the other emirates. GIS web portals were developed for providing quick and easy access of information for a wider audience. Custom applications such as No-Objection Certificate (NOC), integrated consumer billing system and Outage Management system were also developed for FEWA engineers to carry out their daily operations. It is an efficient service to FEWA's end users and consumers as well as for all those public and private institutions that may have information links with FEWA in the future.
